Bacon Milkshakes

Fast-food chain Jack in the Box recently announced their new milkshake flavor:

from their Bacon page
I'm all for bacon as a dessert. I once made caramel ice cream with crispy bacon pieces in it (it was delicious, by the way. I was bummed when Denny's discontinued their bacon sundaes after Baconalia. But bacon milkshakes? That might be taking it too far.

Here's why: as much as I love bacon, I draw the line at "artificial bacon flavoring". You know how banana flavored candy tastes completely different than actual bananas? Just try to imagine imitation bacon and then you'll know where I'm coming from. The shake is described as “real vanilla ice cream, bacon flavored syrup, whipped topping and a maraschino cherry”. I'd have to buy one just to try it, but bacon flavored syrup creeps me out a little.

Unfortunately (thankfully?) the closest Jack in the Box is in Indianapolis, so I won't be trying this any time soon. In the meantime there's a whole slew of bacon-related stuff at the restaurant's website - their new campaign centers around "If you love bacon so much, why don't you marry it?" Check it out at MarryBacon.com or their Tumblr devoted to bacon. They are even selling tuxedo t-shirts with bacon bow ties, for when you marry bacon.

Anybody up for a bacon shake?
